The Story behind East West Store

How It All Began !

Person behind East West store is Harsh Sharma. During childhood days in 1990's, he first tumbled upon his first crystal while playing in the school ground. The shimmering pieces kept on popping up here and there, leading to a hunt for finding more and more of different kinds. When you look for something, you encounter more of them. Same thing happened , when he kept finding them in backyards, the sands brought in for construction of new houses , river banks and so on.

Being more inward by nature, combined with avid interest in sports led to self-introspection along with developing intuitive abilities to some extent. Bunch of trees in the backyard including Guava, Mango , Berries , Jamun, and others helped him build connection to the nature , feeling their presence and building connection to them. Little did he know that all these things are manifestation of energy , with each radiating different vibrations of their own, and one needs to be just open and go inward to feel them more. This ability was to grow more in future when he joined Ananda Sangha.

Everyone has their own path, and his path took him to "Autobiography of a Yogi" , spiritual classic and best seller from famous Guru Paramhansa Yogananda. The book revealed many of the secrets , reaffirmed some beliefs held from childhood. Yearning to know and build more, he joined Ananda Sangha in 2014. Crystals came into life again , but now in more spiritual ways. First one was getting a Kriya Japa mala made of Sphatik ( Clear Quartz). It helped a lot in building the spiritual practice and going deeper. Over the years more and more crystals kept coming in his life in different forms. Visiting Ananda Village ( Nevada, California) took the interest to the next level. It turned out Paramhansa Yogananda , and Swami Kriyananda ( founder of Ananda Sangha), both valued gems for their value in uplifting energy around them. He also noticed that certain stones changed the quality of meditation. Swami Kriyananda especially talked about Amethyst for its property in helping calm the mind and help in meditation. These weren't superstitions , they were experiences, repeated and verified across years of practice.

Years of building up led to the opportunity of opening up East West Store in new Ananda Pune centre in 2023. This was also and answer to the lingering question "Why was it so hard to find crystals and spiritual tools in India that were authentic, ethically sourced, and not overpriced tourist-grade merchandise ?"

He started traveling across various states in India to meet different Artisans & suppliers to see what would make best sense to include in East west store range. It has to be authentic, play a part in spiritual , mental & body wellness , and most importantly worked upon by person who had good vibrations. He went beyond crystals to include  tools and wellness products that could help a person in their spiritual & healing journey. Today , East west store works with such people across Gujarat, Kashmir, Orrisa, Rajasthan , Maharashtra, and more to ensure the founding principles are kept intact.

Our Beliefs

We believe that everything in the universe , even solid matter , is energy in motion. This is not a metaphor. It is the foundation of ancient Indian wisdom, quantum physics, and the lived experience of millions of meditators across centuries. We believe that the objects you place in your home and carry on your body carry vibration.

That a crystal chosen with care, sourced ethically, and placed with intention is a different object entirely from one that has passed through a dozen resellers with no awareness of its origin. And we believe that Indian craft traditions like the stonework of Rajasthan, the wool of Kashmir, the terracotta of Molela, the handlooms of Kutch - are among the most spiritually charged art forms on earth. And they deserve to reach people who will cherish them !
